This past summer our family was surprised to find out our youngest son, Max, had been diagnosed with moderate to severe hearing loss in his left ear. This was only discovered when he was taken to an ENT concerning regular nosebleeds and I asked them to check his hearing while we were there, because we had had some back to back ear infections in the winter prior. after the hearing tests were completed the doctor concluded hearing loss on Max’s left side, but wanted to get a second test done and a second opinion. Sure enough 6 weeks later the same results. We were sent to our local Hearing and Speech specialists where 2 more appointments confirmed the hearing loss and it was deemed a hearing aid would be appropriate to improve his hearing. I’ve come to learn that hearing aid devices are either NOT covered by insurance at all, or barely covered. Many children do not get a chance to even access these life changing devices due to cost and lack of coverage! I can see why. The cost of the device and appointments can easily run a family a bill of over $4,000. Our device was $3,200 plus the doctor visit co-pays.
With the holiday season upon us money is tight and I am very graciously asking if anyone has any extra funds they might consider donating to help offset the cost of the device. Any amount would be greatly appreciated and the device (I promise) will be used for Max to get the best schooling experience possible as he moves through elementary school with 2 ears picking up sound instead of one. Thank you sincerely if you are able to donate anything.
