Moses Onyango is a friend of mine. He lives in Uganda, in a village near Kampala, where he runs the Love Circus Uganda School. He spends his time teaching kids his craft, which they use to raise money in the city. The kids love learning their new skills, and they get to have a lot of time to learn because many of them still can't go to school, despite their efforts, and especially since the pandemic happened.
Moses first reached out to me about six months ago, asking if I would send him money. Having only recently started my company, and still not being profitable, I was unable to help. Besides, I didn't really know him, and I wasn't sure he wasn't just scamming me. So, I declined, and didn't think much of it. A few weeks later, he messaged me again, asking for money, and explaining his situation. His story intrigued me, and if he was legit it *would* help kids, so I started asking questions.
We talked about his kids and his dreams, my work and our shared love of juggling. Call me a skeptic, but I still wasn't entirely convinced he was legit, so we set up a time for a video call. I was still too personally broke to donate (being a business owner, it turns out, aint all dollars and bills), so I told him that once I saw everything was legit, I would raise money for him.
Shocked and awed could only begin to describe my reaction when he turned the camera on the kids. They have put thousands of hours into their performances, and I believe in these kids. Moses asked me to help him specifically with a gofundme because it is inaccessible in Uganda, so that it what I've done.
