My name is Joel Schneider. Im the Executive Director of a small nonprofit in Westminster, CO called Soul Dogs, Inc (www.soul-dogs-inc.org). I start with this only to provide context and support to a heartbreaking experience for one of my staff members, a four legged family member, and a serious medical issue.
Cooper, the good boy pictured on the cover, was a member of Darrell and Jen's family. Recently Cooper went in for a serious medical concern. He came out with a plan, a feeding tube, and a wagging tail. Darrell and Jen came out with relief and a $25,000 bill for care. Cooper was recovering, eating well, trying to stand on his own, showing he had a good chance of recovery. Unfortunately, as many pet owners can understand, Cooper suffered complications.
Due to aspiration, likely caused by the feeding tube, Cooper caught pneumonia. Darrell and Jen brought him in, tried to see what could be done, but ultimately Cooper passed on August 17, 2026.
Darrell is more than just a dedicated team member; his unyielding support for adults with disabilities enriches lives and continually breathes energy into our program. As his employer I can provide Darrell resources, I can provide kind words and condolences. But words fall short when faced with the financial burden Darrell and Jen now bear.
In honoring Cooper’s joyful spirit, we aim to gather around Darrell and Jen as they navigate this financial hurdle.
