Hello friends and loved ones of Adam,
As you know, Adam passed away suddenly in early September while on a trip to Las Vegas. My brother's last moments were part of him being supportive and present to his friends. As his brother, I made sure Adam was brought home, to be celebrated and buried within his community.
Adam was a pillar in our family in many ways. We are not destitute without him - and can remain afloat for the forseeable future. However, certain costs related to his passing are extenuating, and since many of you have expressed the desire to help Adam's family, we have started this page as a way to centralize those efforts.
We are asking for help in three areas:
Firstly, for the cost of having Adam sent to a Las Vegas funeral home (Davis Funeral Home) and flown back to Boston. The services from the Vegas funeral home (preparation of remains for transport) totaled $4290, while airfare back to Boston totaled $1750
Secondly, any of you who know Adam know how much he loved our family dog, Kobi. Adam's only credit line with active debt was a CareCredit card that covered the cost of Kobi's chemotherapy treatments. The remaining balance on that card is roughly $5100. We think Adam would want to ensure the balance was as low as possible in case Kobi requires further treatment as she ages (she is currently 15). We are asking for help paying down the balance so interest does not substantially accrue, and the family has breathing room to possibly cover further medical costs for Kobi.
Finally, although it will likely be some time before we receive a bill, Adam was treated at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, which was almost definitely out of network for his health insurance plan from his job at Mass General-Brigham (which was a United Healthcare product). Adam was admitted to Sunrise on the morning of the 7th of September, and his official date of passing is September 9th. From then on, his ICU costs should be covered by the Nevada Donor Network, an organization that handles remains when the deceased was an organ donor, which Adam was. Adam's legacy of helping others continues through his donation - but the period of the 7th-9th may become out of pocket costs for his estate. We have no good way of estimating what this may be, and are simply taking the total from the above costs ($4290 + $1750 + $5100 = $11,140) and rounding it up to about $15,000 for the goal of this fundraiser. This would likely not cover every last bit of medical cost to Adam's estate, but would help make sure he can leave the family with something.
The family is NOT asking for help in covering his funeral, burial, and memorial service costs. We had the means to cover those, although they were indeed substantial. Those were the costs we took on in order to ensure Adam got a proper respectful remembrance for all his friends and loved ones. It is the least we can do for Adam and all of you.
