Support for Belarusian Political Prisoners (and those released without means)
In Belarus, hundreds remain behind bars for one simple reason: they dared to speak the truth. They are lawyers and doctors, business owners and teachers, students and ordinary citizens — professionals punished for wanting a free country.
I know this not from reports, but from my own life. I was imprisoned as a political prisoner in Belarus. I was taken, detained, and my family lived through fear and silence. During my detention I met lawyers, businessmen and many others held as hostages by the regime. I also saw a cruel pattern: even when people are eventually released, many are simply thrown out—expelled abroad without money, documents or a plan, or sent home where they are blacklisted and barred from lawful work. Release often means starting again with nothing.
This fundraiser supports the Association of Political Prisoners and direct relief programs run by the Belarusian Democracy Institute. Donations will be used for emergency aid (food, medicine), legal assistance, and targeted support for people released with no resources — including resettlement help for those forced abroad and income/rehabilitation support for those who cannot lawfully find work at home. We will prioritise quickly deployable help: travel and resettlement assistance, basic living costs, medical aid, and legal fees to restore rights.
Every dollar is practical solidarity:
-
Immediate relief for families denied access to income;
-
Medicine and care for those released or still detained;
-
Legal and resettlement support for people expelled or blacklisted after release.
Donations are tax-deductible through the Belarusian Democracy Institute (EIN: 47-2291588). We commit to transparency: quarterly reports will show how funds are used and who benefits.
Stand with those who paid the price for freedom. Your support turns solidarity into survival — and survival into a chance to rebuild a life.
