As the war in Gaza continues, families are facing impossible choices every day. I am honored to share Shahd’s story—a young mother whose only wish is to keep her family alive through unimaginable hardship.
Shahd is eight months pregnant and caring for her children while her husband recovers from a serious war injury that has left him unable to work. Their family has lost its only source of income, and every day is a struggle to find food, medicine, clean water, and shelter.
Adding to their hardship, their young daughter, Mila, urgently needs prescribed medication that costs $150, an amount the family simply cannot afford. Shahd is also a dedicated university student who refuses to give up on her education, believing it is the key to rebuilding her family’s future.

My name is Shahd, and I am writing to you from Gaza with hope in my heart despite everything my family has endured.
I am eight months pregnant and trying to care for my children while my husband recovers from a serious injury he suffered during the war. Before his injury, he worked hard to provide for our family, but now he is unable to do so, leaving us without any reliable income.
Each day has become a fight for survival. We struggle to find food, clean water, medicine, and the basic necessities that every family deserves. Pregnancy should be a time filled with excitement and hope, but instead I spend every day worrying about how I will feed my children and safely bring my baby into the world.
My greatest concern right now is my daughter, Mila. Her doctors prescribed medication that costs $150, but we simply cannot afford it. As a mother, it is heartbreaking to know the treatment she needs is beyond our reach.
Despite everything we have lost, I have not given up on my dreams. I am also a university student determined to complete my education because I believe it is the path toward rebuilding my family’s future. However, continuing my studies has become nearly impossible while we struggle just to survive.
