August 23, 2023 I found a stray dog on a dirt road who chased my car as I drove by. My heart couldn’t just leave her there to fend for herself. I picked her up, brought her home, gave her a bath and posted her pictures all over Facebook in hopes someone would claim her. No one ever did. Fast forward to October 5th I noticed she looked pregnant. We took her to the vet who confirmed she was in fact pregnant and was due around the 25th of October. The pup, who we renamed Sadie, gave birth to a litter of 6 beautiful puppies on 10/25-exactly 63 days from the day I found her. I do believe this is why she was dumped where she was. Her owners didn’t want to be bothered with a litter of puppies. The puppies are now 6 weeks old and we had their first vet visit yesterday for shots and health check-ups. 5 out of the 6 passed their health exams. One of the males Bennett, was diagnosed with a perineal hernia. The vet says his intestines are in his scrotum and he needs surgery to fix it before it becomes an emergency situation. My family and I have provided the Mom and all 6 puppies the best possible care that we can afford. Taking in a stray dog, who turns out to be pregnant, then gives birth to a puppy who needs surgery is so much more than I expected. These puppies deserve the best chance at life, and I’m doing everything in my power to make it happen for them. I spoke to the surgeon this morning and he quoted me $2,000-$2,500 for little Bennett’s surgery. Depending what he finds when he opens him up. I am not one to ask for help with much, but I want to try and give this little guy a chance at survival and to live a good life.
