Dear Friends,

I am on a mission to raise money to support my friend, Rebecca Porsia's upcoming cancer treatment and I am asking for your help!

I have known Rebecca for almost 15 years now. We met when she was studying to become a massage therapist. I know her as an avid animal lover and outdoor adventure enthusiast, as well as a strong, independent, caring person who always puts the needs of others before herself.

I have watched, throughout the years, as she raised her son, Corey, as single mom. In 2014 she met Nick, and in 2020, amidst the COVID pandemic, they were married and began to plan their future together. But this planning was forever changed just a few months after their wedding when Rebecca found out she has breast cancer.

Rebecca is fighting cancer in her quiet, humble way without letting others know the financial burdens she faces every day now. She has exhausted grants and financial resources, maxed credit cards, depleted savings, and even sold beloved items like her motorcycle.

Through her journey of many out-of-pocket therapies and treatments, and insurance covered care, she continues to be positive about the unknown future. However, her current treatments have had some negative side-effects and are not working on the tumor as hoped and her medical team is suggesting she try something else. A new, experimental and potentially lifesaving treatment option has been presented. But it comes with a hefty price tag, none of which will be covered by insurance.

With insurance falling short on covering all the necessary expenses, your contribution can make a significant difference in giving Rebecca the best chance at recovery.

Together we can make a difference; we can remove the burden of this treatment and allow Rebecca to focus again on her battle without financial fears.

I hope you will consider giving a gift today. No donation is too small, and every little bit helps in this crucial time of need. Whether or not you choose to give yourself, please contemplate sharing this fundraiser with your own friends and family on her behalf. Your kindness and generosity can truly impact and potentially save a life. Let's come together to support Rebecca in this challenging battle in her war against cancer.

Thank you in advance for your support.

What am I up to?

Well it’s been 1 year since I finished my 3-rounds of treatment and tests showed that I had amazing results. As I began to move forward my goal was to figure out what my new “normal” would look like and what a good maintenance plan would be. When my mentor lost his battle, I was broken, but the words he left me will forever shape how I choose to move forward. He mentioned how he gotten lax about taken care of himself and how he had also postponed his maintenance protocols. In reflection, I remember a couple of months passing, and as I was regaining my strength that I had lost during my previous treatments, I was thinking, “wow, I didn’t realize how rough it had been.” Whether it’s standard treatments or unconventional ones…it is still a hardship to battle Cancer.
Well, it’s time for me to battle again. This is not reoccurrence, this IS what maintenance will look like for me - every year will bring a round of treatment followed by tests to confirm my status. I did not bother with a New Year’s Resolution this time. But I did begin the arduous task of planning and prepping for my 4th round of treatment. So, if you begin seeing my posts again, please know that all is well, but if you would keep me in your thoughts & prayers again, I will be ever so grateful.
Love & Light,
Rebecca

I actually had to look back to see when I posted my last update so I would know where to begin…

So I had finished my 2nd round of treatment and was on a break between cycles. I decided that it was time to run bloodwork and scans to see if the treatment was having positive or negative influence. The short version - my bloods showed expected changes, but looked good. However, the ultrasound showed slight growth in my tumor and a new, large lesion of concern. My heart sank. I was prepared for the possibility that the treatment was not working; but I was not prepared to face that things could have worsened so quickly.

After a brief appointment with my oncologist, I was referred back to a surgeon to discuss my options.
My appointment was scheduled for the following Monday (the expedience alone was enough to confirm to me that this was not good.) At my appointment, I felt very heard and she listened, and then examined, and then discussed that it was really unknown what was happening without an MRI, to which I agreed and was scheduled for the following week, 2 days before Thanksgiving. As with all my scans, I waited for the report to be uploaded in the portal. I was at work when I saw it was there, but I did not want to wait any longer to know what I was facing. I began to read the report…the first paragraph was a synopsis of my ultrasound findings and a request to observe in great detail the areas of concern. The next paragraph listed the equipment used and the contrast dosage. The next paragraph began to lay out the findings: Dense tissue (known that all along)…Right Breast, no suspicious mass or uptake of contrast. Small focus near artifact. Wait, did I read that right? Was the artifact my tumor marker? The measurement was less than half the size of my tumor just a mere 3 weeks ago. I read on… Left Breast, no suspicious mass or uptake of contrast…well I didn’t expect that there would be. The remaining findings were ALL “unremarkable”. Recommendations: Follow-up 6 months.

I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I texted the words to Nick, “No dominant mass or suspicious enhancement in either breast.” His reply: Does that mean no cancer???

Well it sure looked that way to me, but I was not willing to get too excited until I heard from the surgeon. Today I heard the words, “that was quite a remarkable MRI report.” She apologized for the delay, but said that she had wanted to sit with the radiologist and review my images herself before delivering my results.
So what does it all mean? Well it appears that my protocol has had some “remarkable” success. The surgeon is recommending further testing to be sure, but at what point I will do that, I am undecided. Right now, I will finish my protocol by completing my 3rd cycle. Hopefully it will not be a long delay before I am able to procure the drugs to begin again 🀞🏻

It is still very surreal, and no matter how positive the news, the fact is that cancer will forever have changed how I live life and count my blessings. It can reoccur at any point, but I am choosing to make the most of the best!
I would not have been so lucky without each and every person that donated to my treatments. And to one woman that saw a need and chose to help. I love you Jeanne πŸ’ž

And lastly, the plea to help me one final time on this 3rd cycle of treatment. Donations have been life-saving. If you can help me keep the contributions alive through this next month - please share the fundraiser link so that others may hear about my journey!

With gratitude, love & light ~Becca

Yesterday was my last treatment in Round 2… I have now put 16 treatments behind me. I cannot lie, this round was tougher than I expected. And after a minor setback from a stomach bug, I realized how immuno-compromised I have become, and how important it is for me to watch my exposures.

It is now time for me to take a little break… one, because down time from the drugs is necessary to avoid long-term side effects; and two, because it is time for a borage of tests and scans to access my current situation. If all is well and the response has been favorable, I will begin my 3rd and final round of 8 more treatments.
Much love to all those who have, and continue to support me - none of this journey would be possible without you!
If you have a moment, please share this fundraiser again. It is only with these funds that I have made it this far, however, the final round of drugs still needs to be paid for to complete the treatment plan.
I will post another update post-break.
Love & Light,
Becca

Milestone Marker Update:

Today was my final session of the first of three cycles in my treatment protocol. πŸ™ŒπŸ»
I will say it was not as easy as I had convinced myself it was going to be; However, it was nowhere near as hard as it could have been either. All in all, everything being monitored looks good - and I was able to avoid side effects and concerns. I get a week off now from everything except the HBOT and then I repeat another cycle of 4 weeks. I have to say that I do not remember much of September as it came and went so fast.
As always, I want to share my extreme gratitude - this treatment would not be possible if it were not for the generosity of those who donated and shared this fundraiser. Your acts of kindness have helped me afford my first two cycles leaving only one final payment to worry about. Our health care system is so broken in this country, and I know I have been fortunate in my battle and that there are too many that are unable to get treatment when it can make the difference in disease progression. Yes, the jury is still out whether I am succeeding, but I am at peace knowing I am giving it my best shot!
In closing, I want to share an excerpt from another cancer striver that echos what it’s like to be living with cancer:
“The last few years I was so focused on living that we weren't actually living. I was a well trained machine of therapies, pills and protocols.”
I strive to balance my healing everyday and I cherish moments like you can only imagine! ❀️

Here we go… I have begun the HBOT therapies and am increasing to get to a pressure of 2.4 atmospheres. The theory behind the use of HBOT is 2-fold. Firstly, it tends to increase the effectiveness of any drugs you are taking; and secondly it selectively causes apoptosis of cancer cells by flooding them with oxygen - Cancer cells often develop in areas with low oxygen levels, also known as hypoxic regions. Unlike regular cells, cancer cells do not use oxygen in cellular processes. Oxygen therapy can over saturate these hypoxic regions, making them more susceptible to radiation therapy and chemotherapy. I will begin combination drug therapy shortly.

As always, I am so grateful for the love and support I have received. Please keep sharing so my story can stay visible on Social Media. 🫢🏻 Love & Light, ~Rebecca
