We are Donald and Kiyania Brown, and we are on a journey to parenthood that has been filled with both heartache and hope. Our story is one of resilience, love, and the incredible power of community.
As college sweethearts, we dreamed of building a family together. However, our path to parenthood took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2015. Despite facing this daunting diagnosis, we held onto hope and fought through the challenges together.
In 2019 and again in 2020, the cancer returned, leading to a full hysterectomy. While this procedure saved my life, it also shattered our dreams of conceiving a child naturally. The news was devastating, but we refused to let it define us. Instead, we turned to alternative options and froze our eggs before my second surgery, holding onto the possibility of becoming parents one day.
Now, we find ourselves on the next leg of our journey – surrogacy. It's a path that offers us the chance to fulfill our dream of starting a family, but it comes with a significant financial burden. The cost of surrogacy is substantial, and despite our best efforts to save and plan, we are still in need of $80,000 out of the $150,000 total needed to make this dream a reality.
