Mohammed Al Masry and his beloved son Osama, before the genocide that took away their home, livelihood, family and friends. Osama was only 2 months old when it began, and his parents have worked tirelessly to give him a loving and stable life amidst the genocide. Their dedication means Osama is growing up a happy, healthy, curious baby, strong and resistant to the suffering and devastation around him.
Mohammed, his wife, their son, and 15 other members of their family have been forcibly displaced multiple times and have only recently moved out of a tent after over a year and a half. While they found safer shelter, the recent siege and forced starvation have driven every person in Gaza to the brink of famine - and many were forced further. Mohammed was forced to visit the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation sites multiple times - and each time he returned, traumatized, from near death experience and empty-handed. He lost many friends at these sites of the occupations massacres.
Potential war with Iran took media attention away from Gaza, and Mohammed was laid off from his job as a journalist in the midst of increased bombardment, forced starvation and uncertainty. Previously, he has worked as a grocer, bookseller, delivery, and in Gaza’s most prestigious hotel. All of these sites have been decimated by the zionist occupation forces, but the family’s dream is to have a bookshop again. Mohammed has organized multiple water truck deliveries to his community in north Gaza, sharing the support and funds he receives and combating exhaustion to deliver life-saving clean drinking water to his neighbors.
More painfully than this, Mohammed lost his brother Haytham early in the genocide. They buried his brother in their home of Beit Hanoun, and were forcibly displaced south. Upon their return to their destroyed home nearly 6 months later, they were horrified to find the graveyard bulldozed, his brother’s gravestone destroyed, and his body missing. This open wound persists, as the family has once again been displaced to Gaza City, and the whole of Beit Hanoun destroyed.
The family is seeking support now as the genocide rages on, enduring forced starvation, forced dehydration, and after the announcement of the zionist government to invade Gaza City, they are now facing forced displacement once again at any time. Please support with what you can for this family of 17, supporting each other throughout the most difficult situations and facing unknown future challenges.
