6 years ago started my love for waterfowl. A year into my small backyard flock, I was found to have a uterine cancer. My waterfowl kept me moving thru the entire battle. Keeping them happy and them making me laugh on days when I didn't know what to expect, but all I saw was darkness. They always had a goofy fun way of bringing me light!
Once I had my surgery and everything came back to a norm for me, and my health regained giving me more energy and strength then I had felt for years prior, I decided to open my doors for more waterfowl, offering at that point resbit to waterfowl who simply just needed a home. A couple year into it, I realized many of these amazing species really needed help in ways most don't realize. Our domestic waterfowl are in danger. Production of these animals had depleted tremendously. Many of these breeds bred and raised for purpose of food, either eggs or meat, have about been wiped out.
We began our journey to conserve breeds who are listed as threatened endangered and critically endangered. Hoping to bring back the breeds to benefit farms, homesteads and families across the nation.
Currently we have Breeds listed as critically endangered such as Dutch Hookbill Ducks, Welsh Harlequin Ducks, Saxony Ducks and the Aylesbury Duck. Threatened endangered species we raise are Cayuga Ducks, Silver Appleyards, Buff Dewlap Toulouse Goose and Sebastapol Goose.
With the numbers low, and many of these breeds having both fertility and viability issues during hatch, numbers climb, but very slowly. We would love to see these waterfowl in homes across the nation providing families with delicious eggs and years of wonderful fun experiences. Making them affordable for families to take on is our focus. These breeds, because of their status, are extremely high priced.
What donations will be used for...
Housing to keep the animals safe from predators, food cost and maintenance cost such as medicine If needed and bedding for their housing. We do have an LGD dog coming to also help protect the flock while im away.
This dream of building these birds up, will be fulfilled even without help from our community, it is my dream, since I was little, to help animals who are in need. I work full time, around tending to the nearly 200 birds we have, so I can provide them with all their needs. This gives me limited time home with them, thankfully I have my daughter who also helps when I'm away. I was asked to create a way for my local community to be able to contribute to care, so I created this fundraiser in hopes to make it a bit easier. We love our community, and are always so happy to recieve any donations and help when it's given. Having a community that supports what we do makes this dream worth every bad day we encounter. Thank you all for your contribution to rebuild these breeds and keep pushing towards our goals of taking these breeds off the threatened and critically endangered lists.
We are Southern Tier Stellar Poultry and Waterfowl on FB. And S.T.S.W.P on tictok. Feel free to follow our journey as our breeding seasons begin, and we work to take them off the endangered lists!
