Update #4

I've received the all clear to go back to work. I will be going back after Thanksgiving. The time to heal has taken longer than expected. Nearly a month longer but the team of doctors wanted to be cautious and not risk another infection. 

I had internal sutures that were being pushed out of my incision. Leaving small open wounds on my scalp near or in my incision. Seems they've all worked their way out and now I'm good to go.

Surgery #2 went well yesterday. This surgery was to install the new implant. The new implant is made of polyetheretherketone and is essentially 3D printed to fit my skull. Pretty wild.

The original expectation for the hospital stay was just one day but it sounds like it may be two. 

I’m very looking forward to this all being over. Another month or so off work.

Update #2

Recovery is going well. Dave is off of the iv antibiotics. Finishing the every 8hrs of vancomycin a few weeks ago. The next step was a constant 24hr drip of penicillin. Fortunately, that’s over. 

Now Dave is on just an oral antibiotic for a few weeks to make sure that infection is gone.

Few months to go before the second surgery can happen. Expectation being late September to have the new plate put in.

Still a long way to go but Dave is doing very well. About as good as someone can be when living without part of their skull.
