Many of you have been following Rye’s journey with Epilepsy the past few years. He has navigated some intense terrain with courage, grace and tenacity. To say he is a bright and soulful 23-year-old is an understatement. Last year, Ryelan underwent a temporal lobe ablation, a life-changing surgery that drastically reduced the frequency and severity of his seizures. This procedure was a monumental step forward, offering him a new lease on life and the promise of greater independence. However, his journey isn't over yet. He is scheduled for additional surgery at the end of summer, which has the potential to be curative. He is on the cusp of truly starting his life, but a critical hurdle stands in his way: securing consistent health insurance coverage.
Currently, Ryelan is covered by the Oregon Health Plan, but unfortunately, his dedicated medical team, who are intimately familiar with his complex health history, are not covered by this insurance. This disconnect is a significant barrier to his continued progress and well-being. We're aiming to fund his COBRA ($850/mo) insurance until November 2025, at which point he'll be eligible to apply for open market plans that will hopefully provide an affordable and broader access to the care he needs.
By contributing to Ryelan's COBRA fund, you'll be directly supporting his ability to receive uninterrupted care from the doctors who know him best, ensuring he can continue on his path to a healthier, more stable future.
Any additional funds received will go towards supporting Rye during recovery, as well as supporting his journey to independence.
