Tourism, connections and education for all ages. Gorham is a small town in the Finger Lakes region of New York. It is a really rural, agricultural area that thrives on tourism opportunities about 8months out of the year. We also are an aging community that needs opportunities for interaction, activities and community learning for all ages but especially for our senior citizen population that wants to remain in the town and even the home they’ve spent their lives in.
The Town of Gorham Historical Society is not a part of the municipal government so all of our funding comes from outside sources. We just purchased (Oct. 8th, 2025) the Queen Anne Victorian in our picture to become our museum. However, the only stairways to access the house from parking(rear of the property) to first floor and first floor to second floor are a large number of steps and very steep. Some of our volunteers and many of our senior visitors along with both disabled adults and children would not be able to access the whole museum if they could even get to the entrance. This is not acceptable to us. Everyone deserves the right to learn the history of our community, interact with the exhibits, attend and participate in a workshop, or simply come to socialize, have coffee and a snack. Help isn’t leave anyone out. The museum and our neighboring Library are the only places in our community for all ages to go to learn and socialize. Help us grow that chance for everyone despite their motor abilities or age.
