Gregory L. Hill, 74, of Avon, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026. Born on February 24, 1952, in Indianapolis to Rilus and Mary Hill, Greg lived a life defined by service, leadership, and a deep devotion to his faith, family, and community.
A proud 1970 graduate of Brownsburg High School, Greg continued his education at Indiana Central, where he was a four-year starter on the football team, forming lifelong friendships with his teammates. He later earned his master’s degree in education, beginning a career dedicated to shaping young lives and strengthening his community through education, athletics, and public service.
Greg served as Deputy Director for the State of Indiana and as a member of the Brownsburg School Board. In recognition of his contributions, he was honored with the Sagamore of the Wabash Award by both Governor Evan Bayh and Governor Frank O’Bannon. He later transitioned into school athletics, serving as Athletic Director for Brownsburg Community Schools from 1999 to 2013. Known for his integrity, steady leadership, and genuine care for students, Greg left a lasting impact on countless athletes, coaches, and families. He went on to serve as Athletic Director at Greencastle from 201_ to 201_. Even in recent years, he remained closely connected to the world he loved, serving on the board of the Indiana Athletic Association—never straying far from his passion for athletics and mentorship.
Above all, Greg was a man of faith and heart. A devoted member of Calvary United Methodist Church, he found strength and purpose in his spiritual life. He was a loving husband, proud father, and deeply cherished grandfather and great-grandfather. His kindness, wisdom, and quiet strength will be remembered by all who knew him.
Greg shared a remarkable love story with his wife of 52 years, Jayne Ann Hill. Together for nearly 60 years, he affectionately and playfully referred to her as his “girlfriend,” a reflection of the enduring joy, friendship, and love they shared. Their bond was a true partnership, steadfast, supportive, and full of laughter, and it served as the foundation of their family. Even after her passing in 2025, her memory remained close to his heart, and their love continues to inspire all who knew them.
When he wasn’t at a ballgame, Greg enjoyed life’s quieter moments—taking long walks, reading, spending time at the beach, and staying active at the YMCA, where he cherished working out and visiting with friends. In the last decade of his life, he became a meaningful voice in online dementia caregiver communities, generously sharing his experiences and offering comfort, insight, and guidance to others on a similar journey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Jayne Ann Hill. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on in the family he loved so dearly.
Greg is survived by his sons, Casey Hill and Beau Hill; his brothers, James Hill and Stan (Theresa) Hill; his sister, LeAnne Horn; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews who were blessed by his love, humor, and steady presence.
Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, April 23, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, 575 W. Northfield Drive, Brownsburg, Indiana. A memorial service will follow at 6:30 p.m., with streaming details to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be collected to establish a one-time scholarship in Greg’s honor, reflecting his lifelong commitment to education and the success of young people.
