Donate Today to Save a Life Tomorrow

We are a small network of Ukrainian expatriates working with our contacts inside of Ukraine to provide direct help to women and children attempting to flee the Russian invasion of Ukraine.  Your donation today will directly help a family in Ukraine tomorrow, or more often within hours of your donation.  We have direct ties to volunteers who are working to help those trapped in Ukraine find safety.   This task is incredibly difficult due to the constant shelling by the Russians and the lack of humanitarian corridors.  Although there is much aid and relief being provided at the border, there are many who remain trapped in place under siege in Ukraine without resources to escape to safety.

With donated funds, we have directed our assistance in three primary ways:

  1. Delivering food, water, and necessities to families remaining in shelters in various cities and villages, who are unable to or who have not been able to make their way to the border;
  2. Coordinating and funding transportation for families who made it to western Ukraine, but require assistance getting to the border.
  3. Immediate assistance to secure medication for at least 1 week, or healthcare items to temporarily displaced families.

We transfer funds directly to those remaining in the cities and villages without income or other resources to buy food.  Many have fled without having any opportunity to bring any items or supplies with them like food, water or medications, and thus work to provide those basic life necessities for those in shelters.  We assist with obtaining temporary shelter for those making their way to the border or who have been forced out of their homes without places to go.   This assistance has included renting hotels rooms for families to give them a night’s relief on their journey when shelters were not accessible or became compromised after further Russian attacks.

Travel to the border has become increasingly treacherous.  The trip to the border in a vehicle is an approximate 15-30 hour journey.  Passage by bus or a spot in a private care is approximately $80 per person, including for each child.  While that may not seem like a lot, in Ukraine, passage for a mother, grandmother, and two children may be a family’s entire monthly income.   It is nearly impossible for the average Ukrainian family to afford transportation, particularly since whatever money is left must be used to buy desperately needed food, water, diapers, etc., at significantly inflated prices and to support the husbands and fathers who are also required to remain behind to fight.   As you have likely seen on the news, there are long lines for limited train service to border, requiring families to wait, standing, for days for their chance to escape.  That is just not feasible for some families and is becoming increasingly dangerous as shelling has increased.  We work to coordinate and fund transportation for those who are not able to afford it.

Every single dollar donated goes directly to a Ukrainian family in desperate need.  Our volunteers carefully screen each case to ensure that help goes where it is needed most, but unfortunately right now that is everywhere.  Please follow us to see the impact that these donations are having on lives in Ukraine every day.

Fundraiser Updates (5)

I am not a business or a company or a person who can  not work. I don't have time to google the best marketing updates for fundraisers, or hire the people who would promote this. But I do go through the stories of every mother/child we helped and want to share those with you. I want you to know HOW impactful the every minute and every cent of your contribution is. Quotes from some of the families we helped:

'we left with 1 suitecase and spent the night in Kherson. They(russians) were shooting civiliangs along the route. we are lucky the kids are alive. we need money for medications, I will provide all receipts and any health information, please help my child'

'we left Donetsk region to save our kids.  I got laid off, my husband can't find the job here. We are running out of any savings we have due to the rent, food expenses. Winter is here and kids go to school in fall 2 size big fall boots  came from charity with thick socks on..'

'we moved already 4 times since the full-scale invasion. we enrolled in every single program we could apply to, but there is no financial help delivered to us yet. I can provide any documents and all bank statements, I really don't have the ability to provide my kids with warm clothing or pay the rent, I will be homeless soon again...'

'my son stopped talking. medical bills are insane..'

'I am Svitlana N., we are from Mariupol, my son Vladislav has been disabled since childhood, group 3, my mother (82 years old) is an insulin-dependent diabetic. We left Mariupol on the second day after the Drama Theater was blown up. The house where we lived was on the opposite side and we could neither live nor hide anymore there. We decided that we had to leave somehow, we tried and we succeeded. Now we live in a village in the Cherkasy region, from Moshna. There is no work here, we are trying to find a job in Cherkasy... the rent is very high ... even if you find a job or a part-time job then all the money must be paid for housing, and we have no bed or warm clothes, it's already getting cold'

Dear supporters! We now are in contact with families (always only parts of the families) who managed to escape Mariupol. Read here "https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-60814913" to understand what horror is happening in the city, which is surrounded by Russians, who keep bombarding not only residential homes, but also the shelters, where people are hiding after loosing their house. There are NO approved humanitarian corridors from Mariupol. Many people who try to escape by foot or on damaged cars, are being killed before they can leave the city limit.

We are working on the stories to translate about the families we support, but meanwhile a few examples:

"We escaped city by car, the parts of which were scotch-taped, as there are no more undamaged cars. We took my 3 nieces and nephews, whose parents didn't make it to shelter before the shell killed them, we need some medications and groceries to feed them and move them further to border with grandparents"

"After spending 10 days in basement, coming outside to hunt for some food in broken stores, cooking outside from half-rotten produce, under active shelling, we realized we couldn't wait until russian terrorist will allow us to leave the city. We taped the car with plastic and were able to drive out. Many shot cars were on our way, with dead bodies in them, we need some money for fuel for my family to keep moving"

"I stole from the store, which was damaged, to feed my kids, I am ashamed"

"A woman in the village took us in, once we escaped. There are hundreds of people around us who struggle with food, and the humanitarian convoy is not here yet. Can I please come work anywhere as I don't have any means to feed my children, and the other child I took with me as he has noone anymore"

"I need medication, which we were getting from the government-run pharmacies for free. Those pharmacies don't have the supply, we can buy from other pharmacies, but we don't have money for that. We survived, please help my child live now"

Those families who we helped asked if they can give our contact to others like them. We cannot say NO. We will continue supporting as many as we can. With your help.

Please share this message to those around you, I noticed there are many people who are looking to support the cause like ours - enabling moving people to safety while supporting their survival  struggles.

To all of our friends who shared or contributed to our HelpUkrainianMothers fund – this is one of many stories of how your contribution has made an impact…

Anya, a resident of Kyiv region, near Bucha, thought russian occupants wouldn’t harm civilians (a wrong assumption). She stayed with her husband, 2 year old and 4 year old kids in their home. Her husband went to Bucha to get water for the family on February 28, then he went missing. On March 9, Anya had to escape so she and her kids wouldn’t die in their own home. She walked through fields with the two kids in order to get to the military and volunteer army for aid, who then helped her get to the train station in Kyiv.

I found out about Anya from a volunteer chat and at least knew we could help her get to their final destination. One of our volunteers met Anya in the western part of Ukraine, bought diapers, basic clothing and food, then let her stay the night to calm down and rest. We were then able to purchase tickets for them on a bus direct to Czech Republic, where Anya’s sister–in-law will care for her and her little ones. Anya’s husband is still missing. She and her two kids are in for a long recovery and have to rebuild their lives from scratch.

Because of your support, each and every one of you can say you personally helped many people, like Anya. Sharing, reposting, talking about Ukraine and all donations to the fund enables us to provide immediate and targeted help to people like Anya and her children.

Thank you all for your support. Pictures of Anya's kids are on facebook post on my open timeline https://www.facebook.com/elenca.cannata

Update on our work  - I couldn't handle requests for help on my own, so now I have 6 more people, who are in Ukraine, who took this off my hands. A bit of insight on the process:
1. Look at the request or find the family in need.

2. Video call with family in need as verification and filtering scam (yes, lots of those who try to take advantage)

3. Quickly understand what exact help is needed in order for them to get to safety and arrange that help. The examples of help provided is listed below:
- money to fill up car
- finding and paying for the rides (which right now can cost per PERSON as much as a monthly Ukrainian income!)
- finding and paying for hotels when there are no free refugee camps around
- connecting families to our 5 volounteers on the ground, who accept families at their houses and provide them with first necessities
- buying the medication for the families
- reacting to immediate cries for help from elderly, who are alone at home - we find the volounteers in their location and send money for volounteers to deliver what is needed to elderly......

- many more

Special thanks to my husband Arjay, who is holding Cannata fort while working - entire household is on him, plus my mom, who is stroke survivor and had a heart procedure on March 4.

Special thanks to my daughter Asya, who stepped up and have been taking care of grocery shopping, food planning, cooking (this needs improvement), doing laundry, taking care of the little sister, when Arjay is helping me with fundriser

Special thanks to my friends, who come to our house with food, support emotionally, give rides to my daughter to work and to my mom to dr appointments, work with their network to help Ukrainian mothers, help with writing petitions,

Special thanks to my work at Amazon, for providing me with flexible hours of work, picking up a lot of my work, so I can concentrate on what is the priority #1.

Special thanks to every one of you, who is receiving this email, for donating and sharing.

You are doing amazing job to overcome this terror.
