I started playing volleyball at the San Carlos Rec Center when I was just ten years old.. My siblings enjoyed soccer and basketball, but for me, volleyball was always the only sport to play. It didn’t always come naturally, but I loved it enough to put in the work, knowing that sometimes, that route produces better results in the end.
Ordinarily, I would probably be playing for my high school team by now, but various circumstances have led me to choose homeschooling at my best educational option right now, and my charter school does not offer any sports programs. So my only option for volleyball is at the club level, which means paying fees to play on a team. My parents have helped with this, and I have worked to make money so I could contribute to the cause.
Recently, I was fortunate enough to be invited to join a travel team by the East County Volleyball Academy. It’s a thrilling opportunity, but it’s out of my financial reach: $3500 to cover practices, tournaments, registration fees, coaching fees, uniform, and travel expenses.
