Wednesday afternoon Katelyn was involved in an accident on her moped. She was traveling on South St towards Elm approaching Bradbury St when a woman rolled through the stop sign at Bradbury & South continuing on to Bradbury Ext. Katelyn saw her and tried to brake but just didn’t have enough time to stop and hit the passenger side of the woman’s car ejecting her from her moped and into the roadway. They transported her direct to Maine Medical Center. Once here, they did CT scans of her head, neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis and took X-rays. The X-rays confirmed a broken right femur and a broken left wrist which both required surgery Thursday morning to correct and two fractured metacarpals in her right hand which they splinted. The CT scans showed no evidence of a head injury or internal injuries. Thank God she was wearing a full helmet or this could have been so much worse as her helmet is all scratched from gliding across the asphalt in the road. I am 💯% positive she had a guardian angel watching over her that day and she called him Pepere. She has been in a great amount of pain physically which they are helping control with pain meds and she started working with PT and OT yesterday. When they are ready to release her from MMC she will be going to New England Rehab for an unknown amount of time before finally coming home. This is certainly not how she planned on starting off her senior year of high school. She has a long road ahead but we are so blessed to be surrounded by so much love and support from family and friends. Please keep her in your prayers for a full and fairly speedy recovery.
There are many anticipated expenses coming up and any help would be appreciated. France is traveling to the hospital daily and being with her let alone the upcoming medical bills.
