A String Fort Smith – an ensemble of gifted students ranging from high school- to college-aged, interested in pursuing careers in the performing arts, and based in Fort Smith, Arkansas – has been invited
to make its Boston début at the internationally acclaimed Boston Early Music Festival!
Universally recognized as a leader in the field, the Boston Early Music Festival (BEMF) promotes early music through a variety of programs and activities. The cornerstone of BEMF’s programming is the biennial June Festival & Exhibition, lauded as “the world’s leading festival of early music” (The Times, London). The Festival attracts thousands of visitors to downtown Boston for a week of opera, concerts, lectures, Masterclasses, a trade show, and more.
A String Fort Smith – 5 faculty members, 18 students, and 3 guest artists – will perform two public concerts during the Boston Early Music Festival on Saturday and Sunday, June 14 and June 15, 2025. One performance – featuring works by Telemann, Handel, and Bach – will be part of the Festival’s Fringe Concert Series.
For participants in A String Fort Smith, this is not only an invaluable performance opportunity, but a once-in-history chance to enjoy four days of superb musical experiences: concerts performed by the world’s
leading soloists and ensembles, Masterclasses with Festival luminaries, a chance to try out Baroque bows and a variety of musical instruments from the Baroque era, and a visit to the world-famous Exhibition!
A String Fort Smith members will also explore Boston by a Duck Boat Tour and devour a Fenway Frank or two at a Red Sox game at Fenway Park!
Please help defray the cost of travel, housing, meals, large instrument rental, and more, by becoming a Friend of A String Fort Smith’s BEMF début! With a goal to raise $50,000 by May 1, 2025, your financial support will have an enormous impact on the students of A String Fort Smith and those members of the general public lucky enough to attend A String Fort Smith’s performances at BEMF.
Thank you for your support!
