I lost everything, including my best furry friend of 15 years--my cat, Evy--in a building fire. The fire started as a grease fire in my downstairs neighbor's apartment. By the time I was awoken at 10:45 pm by my fire alarm, my apartment was filled with smoke and the fire department was already there. I looked everywhere for Evy, but could not find her. I thought we would be allowed back in the buidling quickly since the fire department was already there and they would easily extinguish the kitchen fire below. However, the fire jumped upward and across to my apartment. Evy died of smoke under my desk near the door. I was able to have her cremated, but am truly devistated by the loss. I've had to take short-term disability from work because of depression and PTSD. My belongings were uninsured; ironically my renter's insurance quote was emailed to me the day before the fire. I have a new place to live, but have been unable to furnish it. I have little to no clothing. I am behind on my bills. I started my life over 2 years ago from nothing. I had moved into that apartment with an air mattress and 3 storage bins and my cat. I loved the place and worked hard to make it a home. Now, I need help starting all over again. I sincerely appreciate anything from the bottom of my heart and promise to always and forever pay it forward.
