Recognized as a historical landmark in March 2022, this complex anchors Guadalupe’s downtown area. It is notable for 1) its architecture and 2) its cultural significance, as the building was originally constructed and operated by Arthur Fukuda and Jack Takeuchi until they and their families were ordered to an internment camp in 1942, resulting in the loss of ownership of the theater.
Originally consisting of three separate lots, the City has merged them into one to accommodate the full complex shown in the renderings.
While the preservation and renovation of the original theater building is essential, the project will also include a one-story structure with an outdoor amphitheater and a public plaza. This new structure will provide modern facilities for operations, expanded performance spaces, meeting rooms for community activities, and classrooms.
