A Science Experiment Changes a Life
Priest James Rivera founded the Priest James Foundation after suffering life-threatening burns while viewing a science experiment conducted by his 6th-grade teacher. The experiment exploded in Priest’s face, causing his left cheek, ears, neck, chest, eyelid, and hair to catch fire. He was rushed to UCSD Hospital, where he underwent multiple surgeries. Priest, a competitive Golfer, found himself putting three balls a day into a glass while in the hospital.
This was a profoundly emotional event for Priest, his family, and friends. He could have become engulfed in self-pity, defeat, and hopelessness; instead, he became focused and driven to forgive and heal.
The gift and catalyst came to him from a hidden passion – Golf. Ultimately, Golf turned out to be the surprising big healer in Priest's life, believing that if it were not for the sport of Golf, he would have endured a much more difficult road to recovery and assembling with society.
Our Mission is to alleviate the emotional and physical struggle of people that have suffered traumatic and emotional injuries by introducing them to the game of Golf as a catalyst in recovery and healing.
