Hello! That’s my mom on the far left, and me next to her, and my kids, and ex husband.

First, thank you for taking the time to read this!
This story may be long but I will try to shorten it as much as I can.
I am really worried about my mom and her living situation. My mom has been without electric in her home for two weeks now since the freeze. The city has said the owner needs to fix things and she has refused.  She is now getting citations and still has not fixed the problem. My mom has been living in this home for about 15 years. It used to be managed by a company when the previous owner had it, and he was really nice. Well, unfortunately, he passed away and the new lady inherited it.

One of the first things she did was drop the management company, this was several years ago. It became very hard to get anything fixed after that..and she felt she could enter the house whenever she wanted, even after my mom told her it’s in violation of the law.  The dishwasher doesn’t work and has never been fixed. The washing machine backed up and the plumber said the pipes have roots going through them and the place should be condemned. The roof has rotted and water leaked in and destroyed my moms TV. The trees my mom told her she needed to have an arborist come and trim them years ago because they were going to fall, but she didn’t, so when the ice storm happened recently all the trees fell and broke the power lines. The city fixed those but it also broke some things that are the landlords responsibility. There is a whole in the side of the house leading to the attic where the raccoons and rats keep getting in and the owner refuses to get someone to fix it.

Several months ago my mom was driving her car, and all of the sudden her gas pedal got stuck. She tried pressing the brake but it would not stop. Her vehicle jumped over the curb from a parking lot, into the street, blew into the intersection and 5 cars collided with her. Thankfully by the grace of God, no one was seriously hurt! But, My mom only had liability so she was stuck out from insurance. Because of Covid her job shut down one location and then moved an hour away… so she had to communicate. Which meant she wasn’t able to work as much either… and well once the car was gone she couldn’t communicate at all, which left her jobless quite suddenly.

After her car she had to leave her job of 22 years as a manager and find a new job. I’m not sure if you know how hard it is for an older person to find a job in this day, but it took her countless applications and interviews and after 3 months, she finally landed a job. Which doesn’t even pay enough or what she previously made but she thankfully had someone offerings. Job and Took employment. She has worked in retail most of her life and a lot of those jobs just don’t pay well.  So she has been riding the bus to and from work the past few month.

Now she has to deal with this landlord person who seems to have no regard for the law or my moms things. She doesn’t have money for a lawyer to fight her.

My mom has been looking for another place to move to as soon as possible and she doesn’t have much money for a deposit. I am asking for what I am to help her move out of there and into a safer non hostile place, where she can have peace and feel safe and have electric and no rodents.

I wish I could give her what she needs and as some know,  I have been dealing with my own health issues. I had surgery removing a tumor around mid January and have more dr appts and scans and other things to see if there is anything else in my body, while I am a single mom, with a Teen in high school. 😞

It is a very hard feeling to know your mom is in such dire straights and to not be able to help her in all the ways you wish you could.

If you have any ways of helping, please do. I am extremely grateful for anything you can contribute. I know this will be really hard for my mom. For people to know her situation… to even take money from people… because she never asks for anything from anyone… but a desperate time is calling for a desperate measure and I hope she sees it’s ok to ask for help sometimes.
Thank you and God bless you 💗
