💔 Update on Mom 💔
11/28
Thank you to everyone who has prayed for my mom, supported us, and followed her journey. It means more than words could ever explain.
My mom has been an incredible fighter for the past year — not just through cancer, but throughout her entire life. She has faced every hardship with strength, courage, and love. Recently, she was able to spend a few days at home surrounded by family, and we are so grateful she had that time in the comfort of her own home.
During that time, she began experiencing severe stomach pain, wasn’t eating much, and spoke very little. She required both platelets and blood transfusions, but even with those, she wasn’t feeling better. On November 25th, I made the difficult decision to take her back to Iowa City. She was immediately admitted and underwent a CT scan.
While waiting for results, I prayed harder than I ever have.
The news we received was what we feared most — the cancer had spread aggressively. Her pancreas became severely inflamed, her liver is now more affected, and fluid has begun to build in her lungs. Doctors told us there are no further treatments or cure. Even the smallest chance of trying something new would bring more suffering without hope of success.
Hearing those words shattered us.
My beautiful mother has now been placed in hospice care, and our focus is keeping her comfortable, pain-free, and surrounded by love during this time. We are spending every moment with her — talking to her, holding her hands, and reminding her how deeply she is loved.
My mom is more than just a mother — she is an amazing wife, a devoted grandmother who helped raise my children, a provider, a caretaker, and the heart of our family. My children are devastated. My father is losing his soulmate of 45 years. My brothers and I are losing our rock — the woman who held all of us together.
Cancer may take her body, but it will never take her love, her legacy, or the memories she gave us. Her laugh, her strong spirit, her loud and bold personality, her unbelievable cooking, and her heart of gold will live in us forever.
We are continuing this fundraiser to help us through this incredibly difficult time and to prepare for the expenses ahead, including funeral arrangements if needed. Anything — a donation, a share, a prayer — means everything to us right now.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for standing with us, for loving her, and for helping us honor her life.
🙏🏻❤️
