When I went back to school to aquire my bachelor degree in Legal Studies, I had every intention to continue to law school afterward. However, being a single mom, the only option that would allow me to work and attend law school was Nashville School of Law, a four-year law college that offers night classes to working adults. Unfortunately, the school is not eligible for federal loans and I could not afford to pay $8,000.00. a month for tuition. As an alternative, I continued to take classes on line, acquiring over a hundred thousand in student loan debt, and I obtained a master degree in criminal justice, instead of a JD.
For the past six years, I have built my PI company from the ground up and, suprisingly, I have found that my niche is criminal defense (an area of law that I never thought I would have had any interest in). The reason for this is the number of convicted felons, some on death row, who have reached out to me for help proving their innocence. During the course of these investigations, I have witnessed an alarming number of mistakes and/or unethical tactics made at every stage of process from the investigation to trial. It pains me to know just how easy it is for the guilty to escape justice and that innocent men and women are putting their lives into the hands of a system so broken that even Humpty Dumpty couldn't put it back together again.
I know that I am just one person. I, alone, cannot change the world but that's not going to stop me from trying. I am fire-spitting mad about the injustices I have witnessed as a private investigator and I am prepared to do anything and everything I can to arm myself with the knowledge necessary to take a stand and, hopefully, restore some of the faith of the good people who have been searching for hope and have come up empty handed.
For years now, I have dreamed of acquiring a Juris Doctorate and expanding my company, Justice Warrior Investigations, to include a law firm. In turn, when a client retains me, they will be getting both legal services and investigative services for their hard earned money. Think about it, the district attorney's office has in house investigators. Public defenders also employ the services of investigators. So why, than, would attorneys not do the same? An attorney's job is to argue the facts and/or application of law. But, without a thorough investigation on behalf of the defense, they are often times at a serious disadvantage. I believe that God is calling me to obtain my JD, so that not only will I have the investigative experience and knowledge, but I will also have the credentials necessary to properly defend those in need of a true warrior for JUSTICE.
I am asking you, my supporters, to help me build that vision. If I have helped you in the past or if you truly believe that the justice system could use my passion for truth... please help me raise enough money to pay for law school.
Veritas,
Heather
